Terms and Conditions
Last updated: 9 May 2026
Please read these terms carefully before engaging Electromech for electrical services. By booking or accepting a quote, you agree to these terms.
Quick Summary
1. About These Terms
These Terms and Conditions govern the provision of electrical services by Electromech (referred to as "we", "us" or "Electromech") to you, the client. By engaging Electromech to carry out any electrical work, you agree to these terms.
Electromech is a licensed electrical contracting business based at 20 Milan Road, Papatoetoe, Auckland 2025, New Zealand. We are registered under the Electricity (Safety) Regulations 2010 and operate as Licensed Registered Electricians (LRE) in New Zealand.
2. Quotes and Pricing
All prices quoted by Electromech are in New Zealand dollars and exclude GST (Goods and Services Tax at 15%) unless otherwise stated.
Written quotes are valid for 30 days from the date of issue. After this period, prices may be subject to change due to material cost fluctuations or labour rate adjustments. We will advise you of any changes before commencing work.
Where work is carried out on a time and materials basis, our standard rates apply:
• Minimum call-out charge: $180 + GST (includes the first hour of labour) • Ongoing hourly rate: $115 per hour + GST after the first hour, plus materials at cost • Apprentice-assisted rate: $75 per hour + GST, plus materials
Emergency and after-hours callouts (evenings, weekends and public holidays) may attract a surcharge. We will advise you of the applicable rate before commencing work.
Materials are charged at our supplier's cost price plus a reasonable handling fee. We will provide itemised invoices showing labour and materials separately.
3. Acceptance of Quotes
A quote becomes a binding agreement when you confirm acceptance in writing (including by email or text message) or when work commences with your knowledge and consent.
If you request changes to the agreed scope of work after a quote has been accepted, we will provide a variation quote before proceeding. Additional work will be charged at our standard rates unless a fixed variation price is agreed in writing.
4. Payment Terms
Payment is due upon completion of work unless alternative payment terms have been agreed in writing prior to commencement.
For larger projects, we may require a deposit of up to 30% of the quoted price before commencing work. Progress payments may be required on projects lasting more than one week.
We accept payment by bank transfer, credit card (Visa and Mastercard) and cash. Bank transfer details will be shown on your invoice.
Invoices not paid within 30 days of the invoice date may be subject to a late payment fee of 2% per month on the outstanding balance. We reserve the right to engage a debt recovery agency for overdue accounts and to recover reasonable collection costs from the client.
Ownership of all materials supplied by Electromech remains with Electromech until payment is received in full.
5. Workmanship Guarantee
Electromech provides a $20,000 workmanship guarantee on all completed electrical installations. This means we stand behind the quality of our work and will rectify any defects arising from our workmanship at no cost to you, provided:
• The issue is reported to us within the guarantee period • The electrical installation has not been altered, damaged or tampered with by another party • The issue is a result of our workmanship and not fair wear and tear, misuse or external factors
This guarantee is in addition to your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 and the Building Act 2004. We issue a Certificate of Compliance (CoC) on all notifiable electrical installation work as required by New Zealand law.
The guarantee does not cover damage caused by third parties, acts of God, power surges from the electricity network, or consequential losses.
6. Certificate of Compliance
As required by the Electricity (Safety) Regulations 2010, Electromech issues a Certificate of Compliance (CoC) for all prescribed electrical work. The CoC confirms that the work has been carried out by a licensed electrician and meets the requirements of AS/NZS 3000 and applicable New Zealand electrical standards.
The CoC is issued to you, the property owner or occupier, upon completion and full payment of the invoice. You should retain this document as it may be required for insurance purposes, property sales or future alterations to the electrical installation.
7. Your Responsibilities
To enable us to carry out electrical work safely and efficiently, you agree to:
• Provide safe, unobstructed access to the work area and all relevant electrical switchboards and distribution boards • Ensure the work area is free from hazards that could endanger our team • Advise us of any known asbestos, hazardous materials or structural issues that may affect our work • Ensure an authorised adult (18 years or older) is present or available during the work • Advise us promptly if you become aware of any issues with completed work
If access is not available at the agreed time and we are not notified with reasonable advance notice, a cancellation or travel fee may apply.
8. Cancellation and Rescheduling
You may cancel or reschedule a booking by contacting us at least 24 hours before the scheduled start time. Cancellations with less than 24 hours notice may be subject to a cancellation fee equivalent to one hour of our standard labour rate.
For emergency callouts where we have dispatched a technician, a travel and attendance fee applies even if the issue is resolved before our arrival or if access is not available.
Electromech reserves the right to reschedule work in exceptional circumstances such as equipment failure, staff illness or unavoidable emergencies. We will provide you with as much notice as possible and reschedule at the earliest available time.
9. Health and Safety
Electromech takes health and safety seriously. All our electricians hold current electrical licences and relevant safety certifications. We carry out electrical work in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 and applicable codes of practice.
If we identify safety hazards during the course of our work that were not part of the original scope, we will advise you immediately. Where a safety hazard poses an immediate risk, we may need to isolate circuits or disconnect supply until the issue is resolved. We will provide a quote for any additional work required.
We do not carry out work that we reasonably believe to be unsafe or that would result in an unsafe electrical installation.
10. Liability
Electromech carries full public liability insurance and professional indemnity insurance as required for licensed electrical contractors in New Zealand.
Our liability to you is limited to the cost of rectifying defective workmanship. We are not liable for indirect, consequential or economic losses arising from our work, except where such liability cannot be excluded under New Zealand consumer law.
Nothing in these terms limits your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993, the Fair Trading Act 1986 or other applicable New Zealand legislation.
11. Dispute Resolution
If you have a concern or complaint about our work or service, please contact us in the first instance at hello@electromech.nz or +64 22 509 1857. We aim to resolve all complaints fairly and promptly.
If we are unable to resolve a dispute directly, either party may refer the matter to the Electrical Workers Registration Board, the Disputes Tribunal (for claims up to $30,000) or the District Court as appropriate.
These Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of New Zealand.
12. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms and Conditions from time to time. The current version will always be available on our website at electromech.nz. By continuing to engage our services after changes are published, you accept the updated terms.
